COURSE OUTLINE:

This one-day training will provide a foundation to assist schools to develop an effective RSE programme for Key Stage 1 and 2. Our expert trainer will help you explore a range of teaching strategies to create safe, engaging and interactive lessons. It will provide educators with knowledge, skills and confidence to teach effective RSE as part of the PSHE curriculum.

The training will also provide strategies for involving parents and governors in RSE.

The Teach Health 4 kids evidence based interactive teaching resources will enable pupils to actively participate in their learning experiences. The resources include various components with six detailed Circle Time lesson plans that have been designed to promote safeguarding, health and wellbeing and to develop emotional literacy within the PSHE curriculum. They will facilitate educators to deliver effective RSE as well as other aspects of PSHE:

  1. Name the external parts of the body
  2. Teach about appropriate and inappropriate touching
  3. Puberty
  4. My Incredible Body – teach about the main internal organs of the body
  5. Smoking Prevention
  6. Alcohol Prevention
  7. Promote Self Esteem

Objectives

Training outcomes – Following the training, teachers and health professionals will be able to:

  • gain knowledge, confidence and skills in how to deliver effective whole school relationships and sex education.
  • develop strategies to ensure a safe and conducive environment for discussing sensitive issues.
  • teach children to name body parts including the genitals.
  • teach children to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate touching.
  • teach children about personal safety.
  • teach children about the changes that occur during puberty.
  • recognise peer to peer sexualised behaviour.
  • respond to incidents of sexualised behaviour effectively.
  • apply a range of resources and approaches to ensure Relationships Education is safe, inclusive and needs-led.
  • identify good practice and understand how to assess, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning.
  • explore attitudes, knowledge and behaviour relating to relationships and sex education.
  • apply strategies for consultation and whole school staff training, Governor training and parents’ information sharing evenings.
  • Make effective use of the Teach Health 4 Kids resources
