Description

Keeping Children Safe in Education (2016) provides statutory guidance to enable staff in schools to fulfil their responsibilities for safeguarding the welfare of children. As part of these duties, Governing Bodies are required to identify a senior member of staff to take lead responsibility for safeguarding. This course is focused on the roles and responsibilities of designated leads and aims to develop skills and confidence in managing referrals, co-ordinating safeguarding work and supporting staff in their safeguarding duties. This also includes an overview of the procedures for managing allegations against adults who work with children.

  • Responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Hot topics including child sexual exploitation, FGM and radicalisation
  • Refreshing knowledge of the thresholds for intervention
  • The Child Protection Process: Case conferences and core groups
  • Allegations and safer working practice

Objectives

  • An awareness of the responsibilities of the Designated safeguarding Lead
  • An opportunity for collaborative learning about good practice
  • Considered thresholds for intervention along a continuum of need
  • Refreshed knowledge of the child protection process for referral
  • Considered their role and contribution to case conferences and core groups
  • An understanding of safer working practice and the procedures for dealing with allegations against staff
